Soulful Sundays!

Soulful Sundays!

There are few things that are as joyful as allowing yourself to be completely childlike.  Not childish, but childlike in joy, awe over simple things, wonder at all around you and belief that all that is important is happening right now.

I spent my Sunday at Disneyland with my family – all of us over 16.  The transformation as the day went on was amazing – reliving beloved childhood memories and creating new memories as a family to last a lifetime was priceless.  Knowing that at 50 the exhilaration of a ride, the taste of popcorn and the joy of seeing a Disney character “in person” can make you feel like a child again is something to be so grateful for. Allowing yourself to enjoy Space Mountain without worrying about the length of the line or  the condition of your back is a gift only you can give yourself.

At the end of the night my oldest daughter told me that they were about to move on as we were watching the fireworks to beat the crowd, and when she saw the look of joy and wonder on my husband’s face she knew there was no way she was moving.  How many ways that sharing made me proud I can’t begin to tell you: that her care for her Dad was so present, that she matured into someone who put concern over someone’s feelings over convenience, that she got the value of being able to be in a childlike state of awe was a precious thing.

Being soulful is a journey, along our path of life we aspire to become more than what we are. Sometimes the greatest step forward on that path is going back in time to recapture the essence of joy.
